In July 2023, Olivia Yao Fine Jewellery Salon moved from the serene alleys of Chifeng Street to the tree-lined Dunhua South Road, becoming the Olivia Yao Jewellery Dunhua flagship store. A quick 15-minute phone call helped us develop a preliminary concept. Two weeks later, we received a draft to choose our preferred styles. The third step was selecting the gemstones; in addition to rubies and pearls, we also chose small sapphires, small diamonds, and colored sapphires for the combination. In July, I visited the salon in person to confirm the color, shape, and size of the gemstones and discuss the best arrangement.

There is a significant difference between customization and bespoke jewellery. When encountering bespoke jewellery for the first time, it's natural to feel a bit overwhelmed. Each piece of bespoke jewellery is a magnificent adventure. Within the trust placed by consumers, designers strive to create the best possible work. As a consumer and a designer myself, I would like to share a few candid suggestions.

Is it really necessary to buy gemstones with certificates? How many people are familiar with gemstone certificates? Or is it essential to purchase gemstones with certificates? When it comes to diamonds, the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) is well-known for its grading and the 4Cs assessment standards, which are widely accepted in the market today.

Diamonds are the hardest substances on Earth, and their bright surfaces combined with high refractive indices create a dazzling play of colors, making them more brilliant than most gemstones. This has earned them the title of 'king of gemstones' since the 20th century, and they are the top choice for engagement rings. To understand diamonds, one must start with the 4Cs, a diamond grading system that effectively distinguishes the quality of diamonds.
